Feature Request
Template
A structured template for collecting feature requests that gives your product team everything they need to evaluate and prioritize — not just a title.
Why use a feature request template?
Without structure, feature requests arrive as vague one-liners: 'Add dark mode' or 'Make it faster.' A good template captures the problem, the proposed solution, the impact, and the urgency — giving product teams the context to prioritize effectively.
Problem statement
What problem is the user trying to solve? This is the most important field — it separates real needs from passing ideas.
Proposed solution
How does the user envision this working? Often user-proposed solutions aren't the best implementation — but they reveal expectations.
Current workaround
What is the user doing today to solve this? If the workaround is painful, the request is urgent. If there's no workaround, it might be a nice-to-have.
Impact if solved
How would this feature change the user's workflow, revenue, or satisfaction? Quantify if possible — 'save 2 hours/week,' 'unblock 50 users.'
Priority (user's perspective)
Critical, High, Medium, or Low from the user's view. Cross-reference with your own prioritization for alignment or gaps.

Pro tips
Make the template easy to fill out — <2 minutes. If it's a 10-field form, people won't use it.
Require the 'problem statement' field but make 'proposed solution' optional. You want to understand the need, not just the user's preferred solution.
Add a link to your public roadmap so users can check if their request already exists before submitting.
Use conditional logic: if the user selects 'Bug Report,' show different fields than for 'Feature Request.'
Review and iterate on the template quarterly. Ask your product team: 'Is this template giving us what we need to make decisions?'
Frequently asked questions
Should I require users to log in before submitting?
Optional login increases submission volume but can reduce quality. FeatureSay supports both — allow anonymous submissions with optional email verification for quality.
How do I prevent duplicate feature requests?
FeatureSay's AI automatically detects and suggests merges for similar requests. Additionally, show a 'Similar requests' list as the user types their title.
